Give me a break!

First posted at I Love Bento

Thank heaven and all the saints that my kids are grown! I could not take the guilt induced by this bento craze. I have ranted about this before. I can't help myself, I love the look of it but FLUTED little sandwiches with happy faces?  And do you think those sweet little heart shaped cups would make it back home? Not a chance. And the teeny tiny pie? Harumph.

Can we talk about the *&^% watercolored looking rice? I mean it is beautiful and all. Maybe that is why you never see Japanese mothers that are overweight. They use all of their calories making food pictures. And can we talk about COLD rice. Who does that? **IF** I could eat blue rice, I want it hot with salt and butter thank you. And not only does the blue sky look like a van Gogh painting, but then this slaving mother/wife reserved a tiny bit of rice to dye pink so the broccoli garden had flowers. GET A LIFE!

Is this the passive aggressive mother's way of saying "I told you to keep your sick hiney home today!"? Serves them right, not only do they get cold rice, but cold beans too. Take that!

Rant of inadequacy over.

I am stitching, I will get back to it now.

  2. Hilarious!!! That would be a total waste of time for me though. Ahnalin would not eat it. All that work, and it would come right back home uneaten.
I am lucky if she will eat an entire cheese stick at school.

But those are cute, in a weird, "mama needs to get a life" kind of way. Thanks for making me laugh Martha! Heehee!

  3. I would *never* in a million years take the time to do that....never! The little bento ladies probably think we're stupid for wrapping that tiny thread around that tiny needle many, many, many times to make a teeny, tiny flower times 300! :)

  4. Martha are you telling me you would not prepare that for those precious babies of yours, if they were still precious babies! ;-)

LOL! I am not even sure if ME would even eat it! Well, she might, then she might expect it as well. As long as it tastes good, she does not care what it looks like. LOL! I am with you, these mom's need to get a LIFE! Maybe take up heirloom sewing and smocking?

  5. Nate and I are laughing so hard! We are sitting on your couch. Now, I know I am a terrible mother! The boys are clean, and fed.....not a masterpiece, but a hot, home cooked meal. Does that count for anything anymore?

  6. Ahem...time better spent making lovely garments that become family heirlooms, in my humble opinion! I love blessing my family with gourmet meals, but this is over the top. And I don't eat anything colored blue...only those things God made blue (berries)...and cold rice? Ick!

  7. My children ate school lunches most of the time. If they took a lunch, they packed it themselves. I was teaching. I had no time for such foolery. I remember the ONE time my mom packed my lunch with this apple salad stuff that I was not about to eat.
These are cute, but a LITTLE over the top, to say the least.

  9. Oh my, Martha. I've had grandchildren in and out for the past few days -- and I've had to fix lunches. Thank God they don't know about Bento or whatever that craziness is! As if they would eat blue rice anyway!
