Playing Dress Up

This is the Circa 1920 Gown posted here by The Old Fashioned Baby. Mimi loves to play dress up.

Too precious.

I also ask you, faithful reader, for prayers for our baby mommy. She is quite ill and has been hospitalized for a week now. Hence the reason for my absence of late. I have been dividing my time between my daughter's home to help my son in law and the hospital. Enough about me. We all need her well, her baby needs her well and she misses her baby terribly.

Hello From Babyville

No I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, these two beautiful girls have been taking up my days. I have been busy kissing cheeks, running errands, kissing cheeks, making meals, kissing cheeks, running a vacuum, kissing cheeks, kissing cheeks and when I had a spare moment, kissing cheeks. I think you get the drift.

While they were still in the hospital I took my stitching along every day. I don't know who I was fooling. Never took it out of the bag. There were baby squeeks to hear, faces to gaze at and general awe and wonder to behold. Who had time to stitch?

You know what is wonderful? We love to wash and iron a newly finished garment or project. Hang it up to admire or take pictures. It is a great feeling. You know what is better? Washing and ironing it because it has been worn! That is a great feeling!

I am working on a couple of small projects when I have a minute or two. I'll be back soon. I'll leave you with this. Pretty much sums it up.

Another dose of sugar

I love stumpwork, I love wool embroidery and I especially love Jan Kerton's wool embroidery and stumpwork.  And........ it is well known, how much I love Turkey Work! Look at that bunny tail!

This is an Australian wool blanket I made for my #2 daughter. It was offered as a class at SAGA convention a few years ago. I modified Jan's original design a tad to reflect my daughter's sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. I made the flowers into white violets, and added the 5 point crown over one of the bunnies. ZTA's sorority symbols are bunnies, strawberries, white violets and the 5 point crown. When I saw Jan's original design, I immediately thought of my daughter and her sorority. It was so much fun to stitch. But if it was fun to stitch, imagine.....

how much fun it is now! What a cute future little ZTA. Two days old and she is ready to pledge.

A star is born

Now there is the best reason to sew. Having a precious model. Our little model Evamarie, was born yesterday weighing 8# 10oz and 21 inches long. She has the best mommy and daddy. They are so in love. She is wearing her Mimi-made first posted here. This gown is Old Fashioned Baby Antique T-Yoke gown in white Swiss batiste. Her slip is blue Swiss flannel both trimmed with Maline lace.

Here is a full length view. Love her!

And so does her mommy.

Watching your child become a mommy to the most beautiful baby on earth. The wait is over and this little angel has come to stay. Forgive me if I am absent for a few days, I have some neck snuggles to attend to.

A "Sweet" Christening Gown

Parm Baby Shower Cake

Is this not beautiful? I am not sure I would have the courage to cut it up to serve. I love how the cake reflects the gown on the baby. So pretty. A precious idea for the party after the christening. I am afraid to find out how much it costs. I know how much sugar work for a wedding cake costs so this frankly scares me.

We are still on baby watch around here. Baby Mommy has decided she is never coming. Those of us who have been there, know that is not true, but remember all to well those last weeks of waiting. They seem endless.

I may have to have this

Is this just not so stinkin' cute? I am always amazed at those that can take a concept and stylize it. I would have been trying to include every knob on the front, add a cord, add, add, add. You get the picture. I would then had a mess on my hands. But this artist has taken a simple shape with small, simple embellishments and conveyed the concept. And it is CUTE! I love cute.

I have the two slips almost finished for my two Old Fashioned Baby Gowns. Seen here and here. Then I was going to wait on the christening gown since they baptism isn't until October but I may start noodling with it in hopes that it will spur a little lady to make her appearance.

Inspiration and an update

I have seen this book advertised at many heirloom retailers online. Our baby does NOT need anymore clothes, but I may have to relent. Something about this just speaks to me. I love shadow work, I love white on babies and I love sunsuits on babies. I am having a very hard time resisting. Very hard.

Thank you to so many faithful readers for my friend Jan of Bessie Mary. I know she appreciates them as do I. She is home from the hospital and beginning the healing process. So far the results are promising. Final verdict is not in. Thank you again.

Back to baby watch.
